magpie Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) hi folks i'm new on here [1st post] .i have an 02 galaxy and it's become gutless until 2k revs then the boost comes on and it's fine unless i change up gear say in town and the revs drop back under 1500k then i'm back in lag again.... any ideas what's going on :( Edited November 21, 2013 by magpie Quote
jim prong Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 I have the opposite effect. Until 2K its what you'd expect, however after 2K its got nothing. I thought it might have been the MAF, but I've found that the wastegate valve on mine is seized. Under full vacuum, it moves just a couple of mm. Could yours be open/closed all of the time? Quote
magpie Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 i have an alhanbra that i'm selling that goes into limp mode @ 65-70 mph and just over 2k revs on the motorway but i can take it over 3k in 1st, 2nd, 3rdd and just about 4th but will go into limp mode in 5th and 6th if i go over 2k reves and i belive it's the turbo vanes stuck up with soot ,there are many topics on this including the innotech tratment that's listed on ebay item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220934225460?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 . back to the galaxy i'm sure it should take off alot quicker as it could be dangerous for a new driver pulling out of a junction etc with no power ,the alhambra has plenty of boost from the first press of the pedal ,as it is i'd rather have lag than no speed on the motorway and the galaxy is in much better condition . turbo lag topics/questions i can't seem to find any answers ??? xavier Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 are you actually getting boost? 2K is near the point where the VNT mech starts to close as the engine doesn't need it as much. Quote
magpie Posted November 22, 2013 Author Report Posted November 22, 2013 yes i can feel the boost build up around 1.5k revs and then it comes on strong right up till i change gear and if i'm not in the boos range that it's operating at i get lag until i either drop a gear or hold it in lag till it builds up again .on a long run it's not a problem but round the town it's going to be a pita . the guy i bought it off said it's had a new turbo but no receipt to back it up ,i could take a look and see if it looks newish ,if it's possible to see it ?? should i remove the big tray and the top plastic engine cover or look from underneath with it up on ramps ?? Ah, they probably swapped the vacuum actuator off the old unit and not adjusted it correclty. Quote
